Choose the license path before the study plan

Most candidates start with NAPLEX, then follow the jurisprudence or practice requirement set by the destination board. That second step may be MPJE, Uniform MPJE, CPJE, another board exam, or no jurisprudence exam. Initial licensure and license transfer can follow different rules.

MPJE vs UMPJE vs CPJE: which pharmacy law exam applies?

NAPLEX measures national pharmacy practice competency. A board may also require a separate jurisprudence or practice exam, so the right second exam depends on the license path and jurisdiction—not the candidate's preferred test format.

Initial licensure

Start with the board where you want your first pharmacist license. Confirm eligibility, NAPLEX requirements, and the applicable law or practice exam before choosing dates or buying prep.

License transfer

Do not reuse the initial-licensure checklist. Some boards waive a law exam for transfer, some accept UMPJE score transfer, and others keep separate requirements.

California and other board exams

California uses the CPJE, not MPJE or UMPJE. Arkansas, Nevada, and Puerto Rico also use their own exams. A few jurisdictions require no jurisprudence exam for initial licensure.
