The guide below explains the May 2026 block-format change, eligibility, official materials, scoring, retakes, and a diagnostic-led study sequence. In the app, Step 1 candidates take a free full-length diagnostic in the exam's own block format, keep the score report, and can buy access to the study plan, case sessions, and flashcards built from it.

Where does Step 1 sit in the USMLE sequence?

Step 1 measures whether a candidate can apply foundational science to medicine. Step 2 CK focuses more heavily on clinical knowledge and patient-care decisions, while Step 3 assesses readiness for unsupervised practice. They share a licensing sequence, but they are not interchangeable exams or identical study jobs.

This release concentrates on Step 1 because that is the exam StudyHaul supports today. We would rather maintain one source-linked guide and one working product than publish thin pages for every medical exam before we can give each one a real job.

What should drive a medical exam study plan?

Begin with the current administrator outline and a baseline. Then use question review to separate missing knowledge from failed integration, misreading, and pacing. Those errors look identical in a score but need different repairs.

Keep the resource stack small. One core question source, official materials, periodic readiness checks, and targeted repair tools are usually easier to finish and evaluate than several competing curricula.
